Kubaflamingo | Der Kubaflamingo oder auch "Rote Flamingo" ist die größte Art der Flamingos. Sie werden ca. 1,60 m groß und 4 kg schwer. Zur Nahrung der Flamingos gehören rote Krebse und Algen. Sie enthalten Carotinoide. Das sind rote Farbstoffe, die sich z.B. auch in Karotten befinden. Sie sind für das rosa Gefieder verantwortlich. Im Zoo erhalten die Vögel zusätzlich mit dem Futter β-Carotin, damit das Gefieder seine Farbe behält. Die Jungtiere haben noch ein graues Gefieder, das erst im 3.
